Wren and Ayla's Story: When Your Wife Is Trans
When Ayla Holdom and her wife Wren received a wedding invitation to Prince William’s wedding in 2011, they didn't know their private life was about to be thrust into the spotlight.
Ayla, who worked alongside Prince William as a helicopter pilot with the RAF’s search and rescue force, had, a year before that invite, told her wife, family and colleagues she was transgender and was planned on transitioning.
To the people who knew her, nothing had changed. Ayla was the same person she’d always been. But back then, before high-profile transgender women like Caitlyn Jenner had opened up the conversation, her life was a huge story.
Seven years on, Ayla and her wife Wren - a doctor in the UK - have gone on to challenge the stereotypes of what it means to be trans. And what it means to have an enduring love.
