Boots Riley is the writer and director of Sorry to Bother You, a film he describes as "an absurdist dark comedy with magical realism and science fiction, inspired by the world of telemarketing." Prior to the film, the poet, rapper, songwriter, producer, screenwriter, humorist, political organizer, community activist, lecturer, and public speaker was best known as the lead vocalist of The Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club. Courtesy of Annapurna Pictures, Sonos and Interscope Records, this live recorded session of Innovation Crush is an examination of the 6 year long, rule-breaking creative process behind the film and it's soundtrack, along with snippets from a few of the songs Boots created with guests like Janelle Monae, Killer Mike, and Tune-Yards.
