This Particular Album is Very, Very Important to Me
Music:Music Commentary
The Dead Kennedys’ Plastic Surgery Disasters with John Ross Bowie
Joel and Deborah still struggle with pleasantries but then dart off in two different directions with their songs that are important to them. Deborah’s beautiful choice can make her cry and we get it. Joel’s song can make him cringe and we get it...but...oh, what the hell...it’s a foot tapper! Love whatever song you want! Be an individual. What’s more punk than that!?! Speaking of punk, the DK’s give our guest a shockingly early lesson on the dark side of America foreign and domestic policy and why he should question his love for Animal House. And why he shouldn’t completely trust his mechanic. John also reveals his ongoing struggle between adoring both show tunes and punk and how American Idiot...sorta failed at both. But we also learn the best way to parent your kids when they’re listening to music that the parent is not relating to (at best) or is scaring the bejesus out of them (at worst).
This week on This Particular Song: Wye Oak’s cover of “Strangers” by the Kinks and Alabama’s “Mountain Music”.
