Episode 033 - No Labels, No Limits - with Cortina Jackson, Fiction Author and SuperMom
We interview Cortina (Tina) Jackson in today's episode #33. Tina is a fiction thriller writer, holds two Master's Degrees and is a super mom to two young adults sons. She also shares a very personal experience with an abusive relationship.
Starting by discussing an earlier job as a correctional officer in the prison system, she said, "I had to use my personality, we call it "verbal judo", where you have to use your words to make a situation better. I gained a lot of respect from offenders because I just treated them like people and they would disclosed things to me. I learned a lot about people and a lot about victims. I could really draw from those experiences because I saw that people were going through a lot of turmoil.
Tina was also a victim of domestic violence and shares her struggle and how she was able to overcome. She is now is a survivor sharing her story in hopes to help and inspire others. She says, "I stayed, thinking that the violence and abuse that I endured was my dues that I had to pay in order to live the American dream of a nice home, new cars, and vacations."
She has seen firsthand that life can be scarier than fiction. This has given her a basis for the material in her writing that often seems too detailed to be true. She is enthusiastic about sharing her passion for writing with you.
