Episode 32: Wimbledon Men's Draw Analysis Pt 2
Welcome back to…. A Wimbledon Preview edition of Hey, Great Shot!!!! After spending about a month in hibernation formulating hot tennis takes, host Alex Gruskin welcomes back Cracked Racquets Writer Matt Stachowiak and Super Producer Max Fliegner to preview the 2018 Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles Draw. The guys offer their predictions for each quarter of the draw, highlighting their favorite projected matches, contenders, darkhorse candidates, and overrated players in each section.
The Most Debated topics from this podcast include: Is Fed the PROHIBITIVE favorite? If not Fed/Nadal, who else can win this event? Would a Marin Cilic title even qualify as surprising? Zverev/Coric generation vs. Dimitrov/Sock generation: Who’s been better? Why does the bottom half of the draw have so much more talent than the top?
This second episode will focus on the remaining two quarters of the men’s draw, and the guys will get into the business of making predictions.
No episode would be complete without Changeover Chat, and today’s podcast proves no exception. The guys end the show by discussing the merits of Wimbledon’s All-White clothing policy and naming who they would want to sit in their “Royal Box”. Also, Fliegner’s former Dartmouth Men’s Tennis teammate Paul Midgley joins the show to share his insights from the recently completed Rochester and Pittsburgh Futures events, and makes his case about why Futures events are as exciting to watch as any event in tennis.
