Welcome back tooo…. Hey, Great Shot!! The clay court portion of the 2018 ATP season is in full swing, and co-hosts Alex Gruskin and Max Rothman are finally ready to get down in the dirt to cover it all. They begin their coverage with a deep dive into the 2018 U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship held in Houston, TX. The guys discuss the difficulties of transitioning from hard courts to the dirt, analyze how the different surface speed affects certain players’ games, and breakdown the performances of the many #NextGenATP Americans in the draw.
Taylor Fritz, Tennys Sandgren, and a few other American players receive special shoutouts for their performances in Houston. However, the majority of this episode focuses on Stevie Johnson’s incredible run to defend his title. Rothman takes particular joy in this result, and explains why he thinks Stevie is the best American clay court player. Gruskin, meanwhile, explains how Tennys Sandgren has quietly gone about solidifying his place in the ATP top 75.
