Episode 36 - No Labels, No Limits - with Melissa Hood, Conquering ADHD
Have you crossed paths in life with someone with ADHD? Or perhaps there is someone in your family or circle of friends challenged by it? Our guest today, Melissa (Missy) Hood, gives us great insights on dealing with the disorder, tips to succeed and ways to understand others who struggle with the disorder. Her book, "Memoirs of an ADHD Mind", explores her diagnosis of ADHD and Dyslexia and how she found ways to manage and make her disadvantages work for her.
"I've always been an out of the box thinker, but for analyzing and higher critical thinking, I think ADHD people become really codependent upon people doing things for them. My job forced me to do things myself. It forced me to learn myself and that was the best lesson anybody could have ever pushed me into."
"Think about this. When we gain weight, it takes us a while to put it on. It's going to take us a while to get it off. When we get hurt through trauma, it took us awhile to have those layers put on, so it takes us awhile to walk it out and get them off...so it's a layered system and so you peel the layers off by being gracious to yourself."
