Herbert Crowley was a comic strip cartoonist, sculptor and set designer born in 1873 and active in the early 1900's. His work was incredibly beautiful, highly original and usually quite bizarre. During one period of his life he was part of the inner circle of influential psychoanalyst Carl Jung. Somehow, Crowley's work has completely vanished from the history books. Virtually no information on him is available and most of his pieces have been lost or destroyed. Buy why? How? Who was this guy and how does this happen?
Philadelphia artist and investigator Justin Duerr learned of Crowley originally by a short blurb in an obscure art book and has spent years searching for clues and answers. He's taken a seriously deep dive on this topic and the stuff he's uncovering has been quite incredible.
In 2017, along with Beehive Books he is releasing an oversized art book to display his findings and unlock this incredible mystery. "The Temple of Silence: Forgotten Worlds of Herbert Crowley" was funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised just shy of $100,000 in the fall of 2016. The book is due out sometime around November 2017.
