This week we dive right into chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis. We discuss how chapter 1 is a “drone type view” of creation while chapter 2 gives us a more zoomed in and personal look into this beautiful historical narrative. We love how this really shows us the contrast of how God is infinite yet so very intimate. When looking at the story of creation we want to remember that the “how” is not as important as the “why”. There is so much that we can learn about God as well as ourselves in these very first chapters of the Bible!
Quotes:
“God created the entire universe out of nothing it was originally very good and he created it to glorify himself“ -Systematic Theology, Grudem
“If genesis 1:1 is true than we can believe everything else in bible.” -Tozer
“What is crystal clear is that if something exists now, then there must be a supreme being from which all other beings become. The first assertion of the bible is in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. This text is foundational to all christian thought. It is not only a religious statement but a rationally necessary concept.” - R.C. Sproul
“ The positive side of the fact that God created the universe out of nothing is that it has meaning and a purpose. God and his wisdom created it for something. We should try to understand that purpose and use creation in ways that fit that purpose namely to bring glory to God himself moreover whenever the creation brings us joy we should give thanks to the God who made it all“ -Systematic Theology, Grudem
“God the father was the primary agent in initiating the act of creation. The son is often described as the one “through” whom creation came about and the spirit is generally pictured as completing or filling and giving life to the creation.” -Systematic Theology, Grudem
“When God says that something is good, He is saying that it is perfect and complete.” -Jen Wilkin
“What is a way that we can glorify God by enjoying His creation?”
“God rested to show that the earth was not just a place for business or for things to happen but a place to just “BE” or to exist.” -ESV Study Bible notes
