This is our first episode in a 3 part series on the Gospel. We thought the best place to start would be defining what the Gospel is. We discuss how the word “Gospel” means “good news” and that we can’t fully understand the good news without knowing the bad news as well. The bad news is that we are sinners, but the good news is that Jesus came as the perfect, blameless sacrifice to take on the punishment for those sins. Our hope is that after listening to this episode you will have a better understanding of what the gospel is and will see that the message of this good new is woven throughout the whole Bible.

Quotes:
“God’s justice system is at the heart of the gospel. Gods justice tells us man is evil, god is holy, and evil must be punished. That is the first truth we must accept if we want to go any deeper into the gospel. Unfortunately that’s where many people stop. Even Christians have a tendency to hem and haw around the issue of eternal judgement because they don’t want to give God a bad rap. God can take care of His own reputation. When we make light of our sin and the penalty is deserves we make light of god himself. Our self centered hearts have a hard time accepting how sinful we really are. We try to close the gap between god and man by making our sin less sinful. By default god becomes less Holy and Grace less beautiful” -Sara Wallace
“Through the gospel we don’t improve our identity we replace it” -Sara Wallace
“I am more broken and sinful than I ever dared believe, but at the same time I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope.” -Tim Keller
“It’s not good advice it’s good news. Advice is to help you do something, (all other religions) but good news is here’s what’s been done for you (Christianity)” - Tim Keller
“Religion enslaves the gospel sets free. Religion says look within and get busy. The Gospel says look to Christ and rest.” -Sara Wallace
“The Gospel proclaims that the God who saved Israel from Egypt, Jonah from the fish’s belly, the psalmist from death, and the soldiers from drowning, saves all who trust Christ from sin and sins consequences.” -J.I. Packer
