Geektown Radio 192: ‘Fighting With My Family’ Composer Vik Sharma, Film News, UK TV News & Air Dates!
We return with another Geektown Radio podcast, and this week, Matt from Entertainment Talk joins as co-host to discuss the latest tv reviews, film news, UK TV premiere date info, and US TV news. We also have an exclusive interview Vik Sharma, composer of the new film from Stephen Merchant and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, ‘Fighting With My Family’.
Some of you may know composer Vik Sharma from Stephen Merchant's Sunday afternoon on 6Music where he popped up occasionally as a contributor, but it's extremely likely you have also heard some of his music. Vik has written for a host of tv series including 'An Idiot Abroad', 'The Moaning of Life', 'Hello Ladies', 'The Undateables', 'Mary Queen of Frocks', and 'Hoff The Record'. His latest gig saw him team up with Stephen Merchant again, as he scored the film ‘Fighting With My Family’, roping in legendary Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, and The Cure's Jason Cooper to play on the soundtrack.
Based on a true story, 'Fighting With My Family' tells the tale of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky (Nick Frost), his wife Julia (Lena Headey), daughter Saraya (Florence Pugh) and son Zak (Jack Lowden) who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country. Ricky and Julia want a better life for their children and when brother and sister get the chance to audition for WWE, it seems the family dream is coming true and all their troubles will be solved. However, Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings. Wrestling has always kept this family together - but now it could tear them apart.
Along with starring in the film, Stephen Merchant directs and writes the movie. Dwayne Johnson exec produces, and (as this is a film about WWE) also appears as himself in the movie.
