Ep. 48 - Genesis - Chapters 18-21 - Sodom, Gomorrah, and a promise fulfilled
On this week’s episode we walk through the second part of chapter 18 to chapter 21 of Genesis. We are very honest from this beginning of this episode that these are some tough passages to cover. However, like we’ve said before, we believe that the whole Bible is important and that includes the hard parts and all! In these chapters we continue to see the character of God through his faithfulness, mercy, justice, and patience. For the first time we see the idea of substitutionary atonement when God is willing to allow the righteous to save the unrighteous in Sodom, although no righteous were found and the city was destroyed. In chapter 21 God fulfills his promise of a son to Abraham and Sarah with the birth of Isaac. Sarah’s joyful laughter following his birth reminds us that our true joy can only be found in The Lord!
Quotes:
“We like to focus on the part of the gospel that gets us a ticket to heaven, but why did we even need Jesus to come? Because none of us are righteous. Without knowing that, you don’t fully grasp the gospel.”
“Our motives need to be for God and God alone because if we’re doing it for the gratitude and it’s not there we’ll just get frustrated.”
“You do not have the power to mess up God’s plan.”
“It is so comforting to know that we are not in power, but God is!”
“Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching.”
