Reflecting on our Strengths and Thinking about them in the Future
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast where we share our expertise in the discovery, practice, and implementation of a strengths-based approach to people, teams, and culture.
Recently, Linda Schubring and I recorded a series of Podcasts from Portland, Oregon, where I live. She planned a trip out west to visit our family and some other friends who live in the area, and we thought it would be an excellent opportunity to capture some of our reflections and conversations.
On today’s episode of the podcast, Linda and I reflect on how we have seen our Strengths change over the past 20 years. 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Linda and I knowing each other, so we thought it would be interesting to reflect on the ways our Strengths have become clearer and more understood over that time.
And while our conversation started there, it shifted into where we want our Strengths to go over the next 20 years. Based on what we know about ourselves today, how do we want to lean into our Strengths more and become stronger in the areas of our greatest Strength? Ultimately, we each want to serve others through our Strengths
On this particular day, we had breakfast at this lovely little cafe on Hawthorne Blouvard in Portland, which seemed oddly fitting to record this in. It’s a bit noisy, so bear with us, but see if you can tell how this fits into our conversation
Enjoy this conversation between Linda Schubring and myself. Listen to the whole thing as we have a reflection activity for you around the midpoint, and also at the end.
Reflect on This
Think back a few years. Pick a point in time and reflect on how you’ve changed. Specifically, think about how your Strengths have changed and grown.
What has changed? What is the same? What level of understanding has become clearer? What level of understanding has become less clear? When you’re finished answering those questions, think about how you currently serve with your Strengths.
Could you be serving more? What’s holding you back from serving others through your Strengths? When you’ve answered that, share this with a friend and ask them to hold you accountable to do that more. Remember, even 1% more is still moving you towards that place you want to be.
