EPISODE SUMMARY:
In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100–9 which designated the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month. Democrat representative Deb Haaland stated: “Women’s History month is all about recognizing the contributions women have made to this country while recommitting ourselves to fight for equality. My resolution honors the stories and contributions of Native American women which are often left out of the conversation. By giving a voice to a whole group of women who have never had a voice in Congress, we’re also drawing attention to the struggles and challenges our community still faces,” Deb Haaland is the Co-Chair of the Native American Caucus and one of the first Native American women serving in Congress. This episode of Native Opinion continues on this theme with examples of courage, strength and successes by Indigenous women. ________________________________________________________ The Native Opinon theme song “Honor The People” is by Casper Loma Da Wa.
