One of the quirks of 1999 is that the year produced several high-profile entities’ most off-brand films. Included among these is David Lynch’s not-weird “The Straight Story,” Eddie Murphy’s not-funny “Life,” Disney’s not-musical “Tarzan,” and Rob Reiner’s not-good “The Story of Us.” Add to that “Outside Providence.” Emily Fox (Hindsight, Girlfriends Guide to Divorce) joins us to discuss the Farrelly Brothers-written, coming-of-age, stoner dramedy that doesn’t have any bird’s heads falling off, one-handed bowlers, conjoined twins, or even one drop of semen in any character’s hair.
