Episode 40: Kodiak Cakes founder and CEO, Joel Clark
Quote:
I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.” -Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder and CEO
About the episode:
Joel and Garrett sit down to talk all about the trials and tribulations of starting a business. Interestingly enough, the recipe of the original Kodiak Cake (pancake) was Joel’s mother’s recipe and his days of “selling” started all the way back as a kid. He always hoped he’d get to help the dream take off, but it was a tumultuous relationship with the business from age 19 and on.
Why you’ll love it:
Joel proves that there will sometimes be more downs and ups than you can count before it “clicks.” Over a 14-year span, he quit his “real job” to pursue Kodiak Cakes 7 times, and then went back to it until he wound up on Shark Tank in 2014 and became what some might see as an “overnight success.” But Joel knew it was years in the making.
Greater message:
It is never easy. You have to keep skin in the game and keep plugging along. It’s a family affair.
