I Am Everything I Need To Be

This past weekend, Easter was being celebrated. And in the O’Hearn household, my mother went to go pick up Grandma from the assisted living facility where she has resided for the past year or so. As we sat down to have dinner together, my mother told us about the Easter Egg hunt and grandma’s place.

The caretakers of the residents had hidden eggs all around the main lobby to have an Easter egg hunt, and my mom said before anyone else could participate— one resident had gone around and picked up all the eggs so no one else had a chance to get into the fun. And while we laughed at this, and felt sad that this one person had taken all the fun out of it for the other residents, it got me thinking about how we ALL live our lives like this lady.

We live a life full of fear that what we want will be taken away from us. And so, what we do to balance out our franticness and fear based thinking is to make sure that we take the eggs and desires of other people’s dreams and lives first. And thus what we do is put our attention on taking from others so we won’t lose what is ours or we hope to be ours.

Which if you think about it is ludicrous because you put more of your focus on other people instead of yourself.
