49: Why mental Health is Important- Mental Health Awareness Month
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month I felt the discussion about mental health needed to take place.
I believe that mental health issues are among some of the most widespread illnesses of our time. With 1 in 5 adults suffering from some form of mental health issue (that’s almost 40 million Americans), not only are they widespread, but they are also generally quite a lot more challenging to identify and control than many might think.
The World Health Organization (WHO) refers to mental health as ‘a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his own community.’
It has also been found that mental health issues in America increased most noticeably between the 1930s and 1990s, with some fascinating studies outlining that young people, in particular, have indicated a significant decrease in levels of happiness since this era.
Today's podcast episode was an excerpt from a webinar I hosted on May 1st 2019.
