In this episode of Anomaly Supplemental, Kasey and Sue discuss the 1987 Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical “Into the Woods”, which brings together classic fairy tale characters with exception storytelling and music. Though the show has had many incarnations, the podcast focuses on the original Broadway production, which was filmed in 1989 to be broadcast on PBS in 1991, and subsequently released on DVD (it is available for purchase and Netflix streaming). We discuss the story (spoilers!), music, lyrics, writing, characters, and themes as well as the resurgence of fairy tales in popular media, why theater fans care so much about casting, and how much we adore Stephen Sondheim. Oh, and it's possible that we sing... just listen all the way to the end. Visit the show notes for additional information and links.
