Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast
Sports:Soccer
The inside story of one of the most important days in Goodison history 25 years on - Everton 3 Wimbledon 2
We have a very special Royal Blue podcast for you looking back on one of the most dramatic and important days in Everton's history - the nerve-shredding 3-2 victory over Wimbledon at Goodison Park on the final day of the 1993-94 that ensured the club's Premier League survival in the most unlikely of fashions. The Blues were staring down the abyss before and during the never-to-be-forgotten encounter but, thanks to an incredible comeback and results elsewhere, they got the win they needed and eventually finished two points and three places above the relegation places. And to remember the match, which took place 25 years ago today, we have spoken to three of the players who played a starring role. Dave Prentice, our head of sport, caught up with two-goal hero Graham Stuart and Ian Snodin while Chris Beesley, one of our football writers at the ECHO, caught up with Barry Horne, whose stunning long-range strike brought Everton level after the man affectionately known as 'Diamond' had halved the lead the Crazy Gang of Wimbledon had opened up. It's a superb and fascinating listen on day which will live long in the memory, albeit one that not a single Blue will ever want to go through again. Enjoy.
