If you have been following our journey for any length of time, it is no surprise that I would be writing about my departure in one fashion or another. As I have begun to unpack the last nine years, this question came to mind: Did longevity kill my career? With the previous company, I had dedicated nearly a decade of my life to this company with no growth. Time and time again, I would hear that it’s not about your tenure that you get promoted or get transferred from within. There was no real rhyme or reason to the promotion scale aside from the cynical thought; “it’s all in whom you know.” I would do everything that I was asked to the best of my ability and still to no avail. Honestly, I was getting frustrated with seeing people being promoted from within that were with the company about 1/3 of the time that I had been. In days past, it was all about the tenure of the person that helped catapult them to success. Here are some thoughts that some feel about longevity’.
