1. German Chancellor Merkel begins Israel trip
   German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Israel last night, beginning her two day visit with Israeli officials. Merkel is joined in her visit by over a dozen different German ministers and this will make the seventh such government to government meetings between Israel and Germany in the last decade.
2. Haredi parties stall on army conscription bill
   It seems that the Haredi parties just cannot come to a conclusion regarding the controversial Haredi conscription bill. Leaders of United Torah Judaism’s Agudat Yisrael Party has announced that it will not decide whether to back the bill on the table until they know whether or not Prime Minister Netanyahu will initiate elections.

Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia last week, Israel is reportedly sending aid. On Friday, the 7.5 magnitude quake hit the island of Sulawesi, in central Indonesia resulting in over 1400 people killed on this pacific island nation.

   In a very strange first, it seems that Israel’s Rabbinical Court in Haifa is now penalizing an Israeli Jewish woman for refusing to accept a divorce from her husband. ILTV’S Yael Shir has more on the story.

   In other news, Israel’s army radio declared Wednesday that the Israeli Defense Force is the most vegan army on earth with one in every 18 soldiers committed to the vegan lifestyle. That’s 20 times the number of vegans in the army just three years ago.
