Episode Breakdown: Episode 22: Wedding Speeches 101
Wedding tip: This week, Celina is delivering a passionate appeal for long-established, gimmick-free dress codes.
Main topic: Speeches are sometimes regarded as this long, arduous part of the wedding day that no-one enjoys and the speechgiver dreads, but in most cases, this couldn’t be further from the truth - in fact, they're among our favourite parts of the wedding day! That's why we wanted to devote a whole show to them! In this episode, we're discussing how to organise your speeches, who to trust with the microphone, and, crucially, how to write a speech that will keep your guests LOLing and tearing up in all the right places.
Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “I have been dating my boyfriend for 11 years and we are very happy. He is the best! We are planning on getting engaged at Christmas but will be picking out our rings in October. We are both very excited! However, both my parents have strongly voiced that they don't like us 'as a couple'. I would love to have a traditional wedding with a large reception but I'm afraid my parents will dampen the the lead up, the engagement and the wedding. We all live in a small village so we see them all the time. Because of this potential drama, we are contemplating an elopement. In your opinion, do you think we would regret eloping or should we deal with our parents and have our traditional wedding?" This is probably the trickiest dilemma to date, but we're suggesting lots of alternatives to the traditional wedding format, including a few ideas for post-elopement parties.
Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: Celina's latest recommendation is a rousing round of the Song Association Game, as inspired by Elle.
