As if watching the Steelers isn’t stressful enough, as Outpost-ers, we had to watch the NFL Game Pass version of the Steelers-Chiefs, featuring the Kansas City broadcast crew of Ari Wolfe, Todd McShay and Trent Green, who apparently did their homework on this game in the broadcast truck during the rain delay. Then they put it over the edge with a migraine-inducing, quarter-long interview with KC GM Brett Veach. My bad for keeping the volume above zero.
The Steelers starters got a lot of reps early in this second pre-season game. They showed a little rust, but got rumbling in the second quarter.
Mason Rudolph started the game protected by a largely, first-string offensive line. Four series of futility were rewarded with an 85 yard drive, culminating in a Jayson Samuels 14 yard scamper for a TD with Mason going 7-8.
Repeating his success against Tampa Bay, Joshua Dobbs hit James Washington for a 40 yard reception in his first drive. Unfortunately, the drive sputtered with Dobbs’ pass from the 6th sailed over Deonte Johnson into the awaiting hands of Chris Ward who returned it 49 yards. The good news? Dobbs made the tackle.
Thankfully, James Conner took off where he finished last year, gaining 28 yards on 6 carries. Jaylen Samuels showed the sophomore effect, running for 26 yards on 4 carries.
James Washington continued impressing, grabbing 4 passes for 78 yards, one of them a leaping grab on the sideline as well as the aforementioned 40 reception from J. Dobbs.
The defense dislodged three fumbles from the Chiefs, recovering all of theme while holding Patrick Mahomes to 2 of 5 passing.
Bud Dupree busted free for 2 sacks, while knocking down a pass and hitting the QB three times. Is this the new Bud?
