Christopher Hawthorne was the Architecture Critic for the LA Time for 14 years prior to starting his position in city government. He has also taught at Occidental College, UC Berkeley, Columbia,and SIARC and won an Emmy as Executive Producer of the program "Third L.A. with Architecture Critic Christopher Hawthorne".
