Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a mental disorder where an individual has the obsessive idea that some aspect of one's own body part or appearance is severely flawed and therefore goes through exceptional measures to hide or fix that body part.
About 2.4% of the population suffers from BDD, yet most of the time, it remains undiagnosed and sometimes, it gets misinterpreted as Major Depressive Disorder, an Eating disorder or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. BDD is somewhat similar to OCD but of course, one shouldn't be confused with the other.
In India, the most common type of Body Dysmorphic Disorder among men is Muscle Dysmorphia or as the bodybuilders call it "Bigorexia". However, among women, it is mostly a certain body part or just overall appearance that they think is flawed.
