Steelers 26 Seahawks 28
Ben Roethlisberger left this game with one drive to go in the first half with what looked like a right elbow industry, yielding his position to Mason Rudolph. This was just more bad news in a game that signalled to Steelers Nation that it’s going to be a long year. The injury bug also hit James Conner, who, except for one play of 14 yards experienced more futility, gaining of 33 yards on 11 carries.
Emerging this game was Mason Rudolph who was 12/19 for 112 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs (the aforementioned INT caused by Moncrief and the second a pass into the end zone on a two-point conversion attempt).
Donte Moncrief did less than redeem the three passes he dropped last week, by letting a pass slip through his hands into the the waiting hands of Seattle’s Bradley McDougald.
Although the Steelers got Vance McDonald involved in the game a lot earlier than last week, JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington might as well have been shelling peanuts on the sideline until even getting a look at the ball just a few minutes before the first half ended.
The defense gave us hope as Stephon Tuitt registered 2.5 sacks and was tearing at the gates all day. Stephen Nelson was generally locking down DK Metcalf, proving himself as capable a cornerback as we have seen in a while.
We got a HUGE boost when
TJ Watt also tallied a sack while also spending a lot of time terrorizing the offensive backfield. In particular, Watt forced a fumble from Chris Carson that Mark Barron picked up and delivered to the endzone, only to have the TD called back due to a block in the back expertly delivered by Sean Davis.
Although Devin Bush did not have a career day, he too picked up a fumble dislodged by Mike Hilton and managed to return it to the Seattle 3 yard line, from which Rudolph delivered a strike to McDonald for a TD.
We’re glad to see Chris Boswell appearing to be back in 2017 form, hitting field goals of 41 and 33 yards as well as two XPs.
