Episode 38 – 5 Reasons to Build an Online CourseIf you have been thinking about building your first online course, but aren’t sure where to start or haven’t acted yet, then this episode is for you! The idea of building an online course can be daunting. Maybe it’s the tech side of what’s involved, or its the time it takes to create the course (because you are so busy working on all things in your business) that is causing you to hold back. The thing about online courses is that building one means you are creating sustainable business. This will help you grow, scale and reach new heights. Here are five reasons to build an online course. To help more people Why did you start your business in the first place? It’s likely because you have a skill and ability or talent and could help others move forward and improve the quality of their lives. If you are stuck waiting for the next lead or client, then you may be ready to start thinking about this as a viable option for your business. If you have a skill that’s in demand, if you can teach, then you can create an online course! It’s a one-to-many option which will help you reach many people at a time. Work smarter, not harder By leveraging what you already know, you won’t have to reinvent the wheel to put together an online course. If you already have webinars or podcasts on your subject, they only need to be tweaked to be used for this purpose. So, collect your worksheets, video’s, PDF’s, audio files, and bundle them into a course. While 1 to 1 coaching and consulting is excellent, 1 to many offers can be a much more profitable option. Keep in mind that the first course likely won’t provide a massive profit, because you’ve spent so much time building and putting the course together. However, each time you launch it, your profit will go up exponentially! Build your credibility, big timeWhen you offer an online course, you then become an authority in that topic. Every time I launch one of my courses, I also become more visible. Teaching what I know gives my students a first-hand look at what working with me would be like, and often they reach out to me for more information about other programs I offer. Future-Proof your BusinessThere came a time when I couldn’t be at work because of a family emergency. Life happens, and sometimes we can’t show up and do the work that we are being paid to do. As entrepreneurs, if we don’t show up, there’s no pay. This is the perfect example of how building an online course can future-proof your business. Relying on 1-to-1 coaching or services isn’t sustainable forever. We need to create a program that doesn’t require you to be there 100% of the time. To challenge yourselfCreating an online course isn’t as daunting as you think it is. I know it feels like a lot, but the hard part is done if you’ve honed your craft. Think about what your clients ask for the most, and how you could best serve others in an online course and start putting it together. By only ever doing what you’ve only ever done, your business will become stagnant and flatline. It’s essential to continue to grow and challenge ourselves, and take intentional action and steps towards obtaining new goals. Besides, reasons are just excuses masquerading as reasons.
