This week in science, I first get to talk about an exciting archeological discovery. In 2015, a shield made of bark was found in an Iron Age site near Edenbry Leicestershire England. This incredible find is the first of its kind because bark and wood do not really survive through the ages. Also, bark is known to be used for bowls and containers by early people, but it wasn't thought of to be used for instruments of war. This 2300-year-old shield is not only surprisingly intact but also shows signs of battle.
The bonus topic this week is news about the Mars 2020 rover. The capsule and the rover itself are going through final testing in preparation to launch to the red planet in July of 2020 and will touch down in February of 2021. You can add your name to the rover before it launches to Mars with details in this episode.
