The Sunday Salon with Alice-Azania Jarvis
Arts:Books
Chelsea Kwakye is impressive - seriously impressive. A history graduate from Homerton College, Cambridge, she was the only black girl in her year group of around 200 people studying the subject. The experience prompted her to write Taking Up Space with her best friend Ore Ogunbiyi, which went on to become the first book published by Stormzy’s imprint #Merky Books. Taking in everything from unrepresentative curricula, to everyday discrimination and the power of activism, it’s smart, insightful and thought-provoking - and I found Chelsea totally fascinating and inspiring to speak to.
