Easy Ways to Make Your Wedding More Sustainable
Episode 36 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast is all about taking the guilt out of wedding planning, by giving your big day a quick sustainability audit. We're not for a minute suggesting that you turn your plans upside down to reduce the environmental or ethical impact of your wedding, what we're really doing in this episode is highlighting lots of achievable ways to make your big day more sustainable, eco-friendly, enviromentally-friendly, and ethical. This is an incredibly complex subject (one that would probably require a 20-part series to cover full!), so we wanted to keep it simple with a list of our favourite sustainable wedding tips and ideas. Aim to take two or three of these ideas on board, and you'll be well on your way to a more sustainable celebration!
Episode Breakdown: Easy Ways to Make Your Wedding More Sustainable
Wedding tip: Claire's tip this week is to use signage in your day to let guests know about all the fun elements you've planned for them. This could be anything from lawn games to photo booths, to a cosy room in your venue where guests can go for a few moments of quiet.
Main topic: Today's episode is all about making your wedding more sustainable, eco-friendly, enviromentally-friendly, and ethical, which, we have to admit, is a bit of a mammoth topic to cover in one episode. As a result, our top sustainable wedding tips cover everything from choosing a venue with an eco-friendly ethos, to purchasing biodegradable glitter for your '80s-themed hen night! We talk about huge elements of the day, like deciding where to get married, and which caterer to book, as well as little ones, like suggesting a cruelty-free brand to your makeup artist and leaving that Wifey for Lifey luggage tag on the shelf! Most of our ideas will go completely unnoticed by your guests, and cost very little extra in terms of budget or workload, so we're sure that there's something on the list for everyone!
Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “I'm looking for some advice. My engagement ring and wedding band were given to me by my Nanny (grandmother). I'm very close with her and she does not speak to an Aunt of mine. It's not your standard fall out, they won't be in the same room together. I've been told by my family that I have to invite my Nanny and not my Aunty and I just need to tell my Aunty that she can't come. I'm not sure what the best route to go here is. For all other events, I've invited everyone and let them all decide who goes, but I feel a bit tied because of the rings and the fact I will be leaving from Nanny's house. Do you have any advice on how to approach the situation? I feel like I'm getting quite biased advice from family.” Our tip for this listener is to plan a separate celebration with your Aunt, and start the conversation there!
Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: In this episode, Claire's suggesting you plan a small, low-pressure event for someone else, be it a baby shower for a pal, or a charity bake sale in your workplace!
