Steelers 26 - Colts 24
The Steelers once again overcame a lackluster offensive performance, winning a game, when Adam Vinatari kicked what appeared to be a breaking ball at the outside corner of the plate with 1:14 left in the game. Unsatisfying as it was to "not lose", it would be overlooking some tremendous individual defensive performances to chalk this victory up to fate.
The Steeler run game was non-existent, save for a Terrell Edmunds 40 yard breakaway. Mason Rudolph was 26/35, 191 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. A look at his passing chart would reveal an incredible focus on the ground between him and the line of scrimmage, although he did connect on one 40 yard (underthrown) bomb to James Washington (that should have gone 70 yards).
The lack of passing effectiveness stole the running game, but Jaylen Samuels was 13-13 in receptions for 73 yards, while JuJu Smith-Schuster was less than ineffective, botching a reception by deflection to Kenny Moore for an interception.
But, let's not lose the lead - Minkah Fitzpatrick moved like a ballerina in Swan Lake, leaping to intercept a Brian Hoyer pass at the 4 yard line and galloping 96 yards for a touchdown! He becomes the first Pittsburgh defensive back to garner 4 interceptions since 2010 (and he’s only played 7 games!).
Bud Dupree continued his breakout year with 2 sacks, a forced fumble and recovery, 3 QB hits and 2 tackles for loss, the last one being a key take down with 1:20 left in the game and the Colt at the Steeler 20.
The defense continued a lackluster defense of the middle of the field and gave up 139 rushing yards, but did buckle down to hold the Colts to 60 yards passing in the second half.
(Shhhhh!!! Chris Boswell continues to be a beast, going 4/4 on FGs with 2 XPs!)
