The National Party leader says he doesn’t think an outright ban of fireworks is the way to curb bad behavior.
Fire and Emergency says it's been called to about 55 fireworks-related call-outs in the upper North Island over a 24 hour period.
Fire crews were also called to nine incidents in the lower North Island, and eight call-outs in Christchurch.
National Party Leader Simon Bridges told Simon and Phil an outright ban is heavy handed, and is unlikely to stop people using fireworks dangerously.
