Recapping busy Monday for Tide basketball and football recruiting
The middle of May isn't known for producing major recruiting news in the two biggest sports on the Power 5 level. That was the case for the University of Alabama on Monday, though, as both the men's basketball and football programs were in the mix for commitments from top prospects.
For new men's basketball coach Nate Oats, he was hoping to overcome the huge advantage LSU, Indiana and Memphis had on the relationship front with five-star forward Trendon Watford. Ultimately, the bond between Watford and Will Wade and the rest of the LSU staff was the difference. On a positive note, Oats has exhibited a trait common in all good recruiters: the ability to pivot to another prospect who doesn't represent much of a drop-off from the primary target.
As for Nick Saban, he and his staff are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to recruiting South Florida. Tonight, the Crimson Tide hit pipeline one more time, adding four-star Thaiu Jones-Bell to its commitment list for the 2020 recruiting class.
Once the dust settled, BOL recruiting analyst Hank South joined senior analyst Travis Reier to put a bow on the day's events.
