Nakia Henderson’s professional experience varies across organizations, disciplines, and populations. She has worked in the corporate arena with healthcare non-profits, for-profits, and academic organizations. Her work has included advocacy, program administration, program planning, and health promotion work. In her most recent role before starting her own business, she provided administrative oversight and academic advising to students in the Health Administration and Health Education graduate programs at Saint Joseph’s University. Additional responsibilities as a university administrator included program and faculty development, staff training, and supervision. She continues to maintain an adjunct role at the university.
Nakia recently launched her personal and professional development company, Henderson CALMS (Career and Life Management Solutions), providing her a platform to coach, teach, and motivate clients to achieve their professional and personal goals. Her approach simultaneously focuses on helping clients to bring more peace, balance, and calm into their lives. The combination of her expertise and style leads clients to experience greater career satisfaction, enhanced work-life balance, improved leadership capabilities, and meaningful personal growth.
Nakia has a personal tragedy-to-triumph story, reinforcing that one’s inner strength can be called upon to start living life more fully and in the present. She is called to serve people who seek to live purposeful and passionate lives with joy, resilience, balance, and peace, just as she does every day.
Her speaking engagements have covered numerous topics, such as: discussing the importance of self-management and self-care to better manage stress at work and at home (Blondell Reynolds Brown Bag Lunch Series for Women’s Development Leadership Program, Black Girls Run Philly!, and Achieving Independence Center); discussing the need to take care of our emotional and mental health (It’s About You Women’s Leadership Conference); implementing self-care at home and at school for educators and caregivers to support children as positive role models (Global Leadership Academy); and the importance of entrepreneurship (West Chester University).
She currently serves on many community service organizations executive boards, leading efforts to improve the community as a whole. In May 2016, Nakia was also honored as a leader in the Physical, Mental & Spiritual Health community by the National Pan-Hellenic Council. She continues to serve those who are most vulnerable and inspires those who need it the most in our world. Her spirit and work champion the greater good.
