While the segment only takes about 10 minutes, Terence's comments after just returning from Palenque, Mexico, where he met with Matthew Watkins and learned about the fatal flaw in his Timewave hypothesis, for me it is the core of the program. But there is much more to this February 1996 talk than the Timewave. One of the other interesting asides that Terence makes in this talk is his take on how Hawaii is his version of paradise now that he has the Internet. Also, about midway through this talk a member of the audience comments about Terence's speculations about the rise of the Internet to ask how this will be different from “1984”, which is interesting in that this talk was given in February of 1996, long before the revelations of Edward Snowden. Terence answers with an interesting take on the difference between the novel “1984” and his understanding of where the Internet was heading. As before, he praises the merits of virtual reality saying that “matter is tacky”. My favorite take-away quote from this talk is: “My idea of enlightenment is when ego and Tao are fused, and Tao is perceived as ego. Then everything happens with complete appropriateness.”
