Today's program features the 2013 Palenque Norte Lecture given by Dr. Rick Doblin, founder and Executive Director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. In his talk, Dr. Doblin describes psychedelic research studies that are currently underway in Switzerland, Israel, Canada, and the U.S. Also, he explains one possible trajectory that the development of non-profit drug research may take in the field of psychedelics. In commenting on the studies that are administering psychedelic substances to people who are facing immanent death, Dr. Doblin explained why such studies are also helping society as a whole come to an acceptance of them. “We are all dying and we all have some anxiety about it. And so people are more scared of dying than they are of drugs. If we can show that people who are facing death can be assisted with psychedelics that's a powerful message.”
