Today we re-join Terence McKenna for a talk that he gave one August night in 1991, his topic: Reality. Even for die-hard McKenna fans, this conversation with a few friends has some unexpected twists and turns as Terence follows the thread of questions from the room. His thoughts on the topic ranged from, “Reality is a naive concept and should probably be abandoned as quickly as possible.” To, “Culture is a kind of environment that we have learned how to interpose between ourselves and whatever is really out there.” And on to, “What the psychedelics seem to me to argue for is that reality is not reality. There may be no reality, but certainly this is not it. This is some kind of highly provisional, culturally sanctioned, hallucination that we are all participating in.”
