There’s this disconnect between where we are now in life and where we want to be. There are two types of people in this world: the type of person that is pulled by that vision, and the type of person who is scared by how far there is to go. We hold both types of people in us, and we get to choose which one we want to be.
People will put in decades of their life towards a goal if authority tells them that it’s the right thing to do. But, if they’re on their own with this goal, they’re called a dreamer. They’re told to grow up, be responsible, and to get a real job. If we decide to become an entrepreneur, it’s harder to stay on that path because people will question what you’re doing.
Let’s take a look at the unbearable pain of not having arrived, how we can deal with it when going after big goals, and what it means for society.
1. Descent into chaos. If we go after a non-mainstream goal, you will dissent into chaos. You are going to want to turn around and leave.
2. Uncertainty in your approach. You’ll start to doubt if you’re doing the right thing and you might abandon your path.
3. Low chance of success. About nine out of ten business fail. What is the probability of success for entrepreneurs that stay in business for ten years and get guidance along the way? A lot better than that.
4. Identity vs. self. Eventually you’ll start to question yourself. You have to deal with your own personal identity and question what it really is.
5. Practical implications. We still have to take care of our family and pay our bills, but you’ll be making less money for a while. It’s the opposite of what you’re going for.
Now, we’ve started to arrive. At this point, if you can start to make order out of chaos, you’ll have an identity reformation. Now you see problems and understand that you can take chaos and turn them into order. You understand that you can choose to play in society’s system or create your own.
If you’ve come this far, you understand that there’s not much that’s out of your reach.
