Michael Bettine is a professional percussionist, composer, music educator and writer. In the 1970s, Bettine was immersed in progressive rock, improvisation and discovered a deep fascination with gongs. For almost twenty years now, he has been working not only with gongs but also singing bowls, bells and other resonant metal instruments under the name, Gongtopia. His meditation sessions and sound workshops, solo percussion performances and recordings are grounded in his research on the effects that sound can have on our minds and bodies. In this podcast we explore intuitive and intentional gong playing and the development of our modern gong culture.
