Since the mid-1990's, there has been much talk of a reform of the liturgical reform. Those who speak of a "reform of the reform," do so on the assumption that the call of the Second Vatican Council for a moderate reform of the Church's liturgy was, in some way, thwarted or even hijacked, and that what was eventually promulgated by Pope Paul VI was anything but a faithful application of Vatican II's Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium. What happened, critics say, was more in the nature of a revolution than a reform or a renewal of the liturgy.
