Gosia Wheeler share traditions for her native Poland. The oplatek wafer is a long tradtion in the Polish celebration of Christmas Eve. It is a thin wafer made from unleavened bread with pressed images of angels, the Blessed Mother, or Jesus. It is blessed by the priest on the first Sunday of Advent. It is an Eucharisitic represenation of Mass and reminder that Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus. The father begins by breaking off a piece and handing the oplatek to his wife. He tells her what he is thankful or asks for forgiveness. This is repeated from member to member. Check out our Facebook page, Catholic Women Now Radio, for pictures of the oplatek Gosia brought.
