The total number of full-time teachers in rural areas in China has decreased from 3.23 million in 2012 to 2.81 million in 2017, with an averagely decreasing rate of 2.754 %, annually. Meanwhile, the illiteracy and semi-illiteracy rate of the rural young and middle-aged labor force is as high as 23.48%.
