The Small & Supercharged Podcast
Business:Marketing
I know this is a controversial one, but please know it comes to you from the right place. I'm looking out for you here. And sometimes, unfollowing or muting someone - even if it's just temporarily - on social media, is absolutely the right thing to do.
The thing is, it often has less to do with them and more to do with you, and that's fine too. For your mental health, for your anxiety, for your sanity and for everything else that matters in actual real life, please tune in, listen to the points I'm making, and think about whether unfollowing or muting any accounts that have a negative impact on your might help.
Because social media should be a happy, positive place. Of course you'll see things that aren't always happy because that is life, but overall, you should use it and feel uplifted and connected. If you're feeling less than, sad, upset, angry, bullied... and more negative emotions besides, it might be worth seeing what a little distance from the accounts that cause these feelings can do.
And the great thing is that when you unfollow on Facebook or mute on Instagram, the person doesn't know, so they won't be upset by your decision. And you can still go and look at and engage with their content when you like, it just won't be on your feed automatically.
Read more about the four reasons to unfollow or mute on social media on my blog.
