Chris Kirk is an Applied Sports Scientist, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Lecturer and Researcher whose research interest lies in performance requirements and training effects of different combat sports.
His PhD is investigating the training loads and physiological effects of preparation for mixed martial arts competition to better inform training requirements and development frameworks to reduce the negative effects of this training.
In this episode we discuss his research and explore the questions of what is performance for a combat sport athlete and how well do we really understand the physiology that drives this.
