Myles Garrett was reinstated by the NFL last week, then sat down with Mina Kimes for an interview on ESPN's "Outside the Lines." Garrett reiterated his claim that Mason Rudolph uttered the "n-word" during their altercation.
Mike Tomlin reacted strongly in his own ESPN interview with Stephen A Smith. “What was your reaction to Myles Garrett’s accusation?” Tomlin responded, “I took offense to it”
Smith posed a hypothetical asking how Tomlin would have handled a situation where a Steeler player said a racial slur. Tomlin said that " It was implied that somehow we suppressed evidence or were participants in some lack of thoroughness. Anybody that know this organization knows what it stands for and understands how the Rooney family gets down from a business standpoint .. that's laughable."
Nick and Tom also discuss Cleveland fans' defense of Garrett in the face of overwhelming evidence of his unacceptable behavior.
Wide Receivers Coach
It looks like we got out ahead of ourselves last week with the news that South Carolina assistant Bryan McClendon would be the Steeler’s wide receiver coach in 2020. South Carolina confirmed that he will be returning to the team
But the good news is that Steeler alum, Jerricho Cotchery is being interviewed for the job. The 37 year-old Cotchery played for the Steelers from 2011 through 2013 and has been on the Panther's coaching staff since 2017.
Collective Bargaining Agreement
On Thursday in Washington D.C., the NFLPA’s executive committee and player representatives may vote on a CBA proposal from the NFL’s owners. The NFL is anxious to strike new media deals while the iron is hot: Increased TV ratings and the economy. The players' interest is aligned, so rather than wait until the expiration of the contract after the 2020 season, they are working now to come to agreement. Players feel urgency to lock in a deal so that owners can maximize deals with media and share in the additional booty.
Antonio Brown
Is AB on his way to the combine?!
Ryan Shazier
Owner Art Rooney II has said that the Steelers “would love” to have Shazier back. Although he said that Shazier's contract won't toll again as it had in 2019, the team is interested in keeping him in some capacity.
XFL
Dallas Renegades 25 LA Wildcats 18 led by former Steeler Landry Jones who went 28-40 (70%) for 305 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. Landry seemed to be suffering from the continued effect of his early season knee injury as he made a Ben-like rumble for 10 yards and a 1st down.
