In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman sit down with improviser, storyteller, and playwright, Brian Paul. Brian is best known in the seacoast as an improviser with Dorks in Dungeons: live improv comedy meets Fantasy Role-playing games! Using the framework of a tabletop role-playing game, the Dorks of Dorks in Dungeons create each show with the help of audience “re-role” suggestions and the whim of a 20 sided die. Like much of the millennial generation, Brian’s early exposure to improv was the television show, “Whose Line is It Anyway?” Brian recalls his introduction to performing was the result of not having anything to do after school — thank goodness for teenage boredom, right? A naturally fearful and anxious human, Brian used improv to confront his fears and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Beyond Brian’s improv work, Brian is also a playwright and creative writer. Learn about “Moonmates”, a play about roommates on the moon in this episode!
