24/2/20 - 126 - Helping SA’s vulnerable children and young people
The Department for Child Protection aims to give young South Australians in its care every opportunity to reach their full potential.
It works in partnership with vulnerable families, government and non-government organisations, foster carers and the community to care for and protect at risk children and young people by addressing abuse and neglect and keeping them safe from further harm.
One year ago, the department appointed Dr Prue McEvoy as Lead Psychiatric Director - the first psychiatrist in the country to be embedded in a child protection agency.
On this episode of ‘Our State’, Dr McEvoy and the department’s Executive Director of Service Delivery and Practice Sue Macdonald, discuss the need for more carers and how vulnerable young people are helped to work through their trauma.
