Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 07: Composer Jordan Gagne Interview - 'Altered Carbon', 'The Rookie', 'Treadstone'

On this latest edition of the Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, we sit down and chat with composer Jordan Gagne, co-composer on 'Altered Carbon' Season 2, Nathan Fillion's 'The Rookie', and the Jason Borne franchise series 'Treadstone'.

Jordan is a Canadian composer based in Los Angeles, and for many years has been working closely with the brilliant Jeff Russo, the man behind the music for 'Star Trek Picard', 'Star Trek Discovery' and 'Fargo'. In the interview, we discuss his long relationship working with Jeff across a range of projects, including the recently released 'Altered Carbon' Season 2.

Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, ‘Altered Carbon’ is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. In season 2, Anthony Mackie takes over the role of Takeshi Kovacs from Joel Kinnaman. A former Protectorate CTAC soldier who became a revolutionary Envoy, and then a mercenary for hire, Kovacs swears allegiance to no man or woman except one: Quellcrist Falconer. His undying quest to reconnect with her spans multiple centuries, planets and sleeves.

We discuss how the changes on-screen in Season 2 are reflected in the music for the show, whilst making sure the themes are still relevant, along with how he works with Jeff to create the sound of the show. We also discuss his work on 'The Rookie' and 'Treadstone', along with their upcoming project 'Brave New World' for USA Network.
