The Denver Broncos kicked off the Free-Agency action by placing the Franchise Tag on Safety Justin Simmons. Both sides will continue to negotiate a long-term contract deal in the ballpark range of 5 years with hopes to coming to an agreement by the July 15th deadline. If a deal cannot be made by that deadline, the Simmons will play for the Broncos on the scheduled franchise tag salary of $12.7M. Cody Roark breaks down all the action.
The NFL and the NFL Players passed the new CBA which goes into effect immediately. The terms of the CBA provide players with a multitude of changes stemming from minimum player salaries, increased health benefits for current and retired players. The NFL will immediately transition to a 14 team playoff format with 7 sides on the AFC and the NFC making it in. The first seed will receive a first round bye. The NFL also included a provision to the CBA where an NFL team can only use the Franchise tag or the transition tag on one player rather than both tags being used.
Plus with the start of NFL Free Agency this week, Cody discusses the anticipated moves we will see by the Denver Broncos in Phase 1.
